Cipro Review
Generic name: Ciprofloxacin.
Also known as: Cifran, Ciproxin, Proquin, Ciloxan, Ciplox.
Active ingredient: Ciprofloxacin.
What Does Cipro Treat?
Cipro was approved after lab tests for treating 14 widespread infections in a human body. Among these infections are urinary tract infections (also known as UTIs) like prudent uncomplicated cystitis, pyelonephritis and chronic bacterial prostatitis. In addition to this Cipro can be used as a part of therapy for treating severe cases of pneumonia, gonorrhea; diarrhea caused by infections; typhoid fever; anthrax; and a number of bone and skin infections.
How to Take Cipro?
A patient should take Cipro according to the doctor’s recommendations. Cipro is supplied in tablets and as a liquid, both for oral taking. Do not chew, crush or break Cipro tablets, take them whole as it was prescribed.
One should take a Cipro pill with a glass of water (approximately 8 ounces). Pills can be taken with or without food, choose and do not change the way of using pills. Take Cipro tablets strictly according to a dosage schedule.
If you take Cipro as an oral liquid, shake the bottle for 15 seconds before starting to measure the drug for taking.
If you have missed the dose, take as soon as possible. Never take 2 doses at once or during a short interval.
Cipro Side Effects and Precautions
Cipro is not recommended for taking by little children. Before starting to take this drug inform your doctor if you suffer from: any kidney/liver disease, myasthenia gravis, have joint problems, diabetes, seizures, hypokalemia, Long QT syndrome, heart rhythm disorders.
FDA pregnancy classified this medicine as C, which means it can’t be said if this medication is harmful for an unborn baby or not. Consult your doctor to find out for sure.
It is forbidden to take Cipro in larger doses than it was prescribed by a doctor. Overdose symptoms include: seizures, severe urination problems, weakness along with blue lips and pale skin.
Stop taking Cipro at once if you have the following side effects:

• Fainting;
• Uneven heartbeat;
• Swelling of joints and tendon;
• Watery diarrhea;
• Hallucinations;
• Depression;
• Convulsions;
• Yellowed skin;
• Dark colored urine;
• Sore throat;
• Skin rash.

Interaction of Cipro with Other Drugs
Do not take Cipro being allergic to its active component- ciprofloxacin. Also do not take this drug along with similar fluoroquinolone antibiotics because of severe side effects and overdosing risk.
Inform your doctor if take any of these meds before starting to take Cipro: antacids, vitamin/mineral supplements, Carafate, Videx powder or any chewable tablets during 6 hours before and/or 2 hours after taking a pill of Cipro.
Next meds interact with Cipro negatively, so do not take them at the same time with Cipro: Tizanidine, Levaquin, Avelox, Floxin, Noroxin, Maxaquin, Warfarin, FazaClo, Cyclosporine, Insulin/diabetes oral meds like Glyburide, Methotrexate, Reglan, Dilantin, Benemid, Requip, Cognex, Theophylline, any NSAID drug like Ibuprofen, any oral steroid drug like Prednisone and similar.

Peculiarities and Recommendations Concerning Cipro
It is not allowed to take Cipro along with milk and dairy products or any calcium-containing juice. They make Cipro less effective. Cipro makes skin more vulnerable to sunlight, so avoid sunlamps, tanning beds and sun baths while taking Cipro.
