Arcoxia Review

Generic name: Etoricoxib.

Also known as: Algix, Tauxib.

Active ingredient: Etoricoxib.

Etoricoxib has a dose-dependent effect of inhibition of COX-2 without affecting COX-1 when used in a daily dose of 150 mg. Arcoxia no effect on the production of prostaglandins in the gastric mucosa and bleeding time. In the studies there were no reduction levels of arachidonic acid and platelet aggregation induced by collagen.

What Does Arcoxia Treat?

Arcoxia is effective in treating the following conditions: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis; ankylosing spondylitis; pain and inflammatory symptoms associated with acute gouty arthritis.

How to Take Arcoxia?

Arcoxia pills are taken by mouth, with or without food, drinking a small amount of water.

Osteoarthritis - the recommended dose is 60 mg 1 time a day. In rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis - the recommended dose is 90 mg 1 time a day. In acute gouty arthritis in the acute period – the recommended dose is 120 mg 1 time per day. The average therapeutic dose of the pain syndrome is a single dose of 60 mg.

Duration of use of the drug at a dose of 120 mg is no more than 8 days. You should use the minimum effective dose, short-course low as possible.

Side Effects and Precautions of Arcoxia

Before starting to use Arcoxia medication you must share with your doctor if you have the following conditions: complete or incomplete combination of asthma, recurrent nasal polyposis or sinusitis, and intolerance of aspirin and other NSAIDs (including history); erosive and ulcerative changes in the mucous membrane of the stomach or duodenum; active gastrointestinal bleeding; cerebrovascular or other bleeding disorder; an inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis) in acute phase; hemophilia; severe congestive heart failure; severe hepatic impairment or active liver disease; severe renal impairment, progressive renal disease, hyperkalemia confirmed; a recovery after a coronary artery bypass surgery, peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease, symptomatic coronary artery disease.

Children up to age 16 years and pregnant women should not use Arcoxia since this medication wasn’t approved by FDA pregnancy and it is possible in causing severe birth defects in newborns.
