Protonix Review

What Does Protonix Treat?
Protonix is widely applied for treating erosive esophagitis and similar impairments caused by the excessive amount of stomach acid – for example, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. In addition to these conditions, in some cases Protonix is recommended as the effective treatment of GERD -gastroesophageal reflux disease.
It is not advised to use Protonix to relieve the heartburn symptoms.
How to Take Protonix?
Protonix can be supplied in different forms, the most widespread and available online is its oral form – capsules and granules. A patient may take Protonix capsules along with food or without a meal. Protonix granules are taken 30 minutes before taking food.
It is forbidden to break or chew tablets of Protonix before consuming them. Swallow them whole. Granules should be mixed with apple juice to swallow them easier.
The dosage is assigned by a therapist but if you don’t have any severe contradictions you should start from the average daily dose of Protonix – 40 mg taken once per day. The treatment involving usage of Protonix should last no longer than 8 weeks in a row.
Side Effects and Precautions of Protonix
Some contradictions may prevent you from taking Protonix and they include: hypersensitivity to its ingredients, any other food or drug allergies, low concentration of magnesium in blood, a stomach cancer, a liver or renal failure.
Protonix as any proton pump inhibitor can increase the risk of having such impairments as bone fractures of hips, wrists and spine, especially if an elderly person takes this preparation for a long-term period. The excessive amount of Protonix in blood can also trigger the deficiency of vitamin B12 which in its turn may lead to such side effects as pale skin, feeling tired, uneven heart beating and shortnes of breath.

Interaction of Protonix with Other Drugs
There are certain drug interactions you must avoid while being on Protonix treatment and they include: atazanavir, Viracept and other HIV/AIDS drugs, ampicillin; any blood thinners, Plavix, digoxin, diuretics, ketoconazole and other antifungal agents, iron-based preparations like Feosol and similar.
Peculiarities and Recommendations Concerning Protonix
Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages while being on Protonix. This medication is also able to impair your reactions and thinking.
